Happy Father's Day

Dad and Me 1985

I visited my Dad. His headstone has been placed and it turned out so nice. It's a gray granite with bold letting. We chose to place an image of books in the corner and they turned out so well--not cheesey! I'm really glad it's finally been placed. It's so peaceful in Midway. The lilacs are still out and everything is so green. He picked a great spot!

I miss my Dad. He taught me a lot of things. He taught me to love music. Where would I be without The Beatles and Paul Simon or Scheherezade and The Firebird Suite or even Sly and The Family Stone? I will always remember "Riders On The Storm" on eight track in his black Cadillac, driving through Snow Canyon in the rain, just talking.
He taught me how to listen. I'm not always good at it, but he taught me how to really listen to what people are saying and not just to wait until they stop talking to say what you have to say. He taught me what unconditional love feels like.
He also taught me what enduring to the end really means. He suffered so much pain towards the end and yet he rarely complained. He had such great faith to say "Thy will be done", even when I couldn't understand why he was still here, suffering. He was patient and dignified in intense agony. He was a great example to me in his life and his death. I miss him!

So I made a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for Michael for Father's Day in honor of my Dad. It was my Dad's favorite. He would put a slice in a bowl and pour a little milk over it. It's how I still eat it. Thanks Dad!

Michael is such a wonderful Dad to our children. He is patient with them and I know he loves them. He does so much for all of us. He is a wonderful man. I'm learning a lot from him as well. I'm trying to learn to let things roll off my back like he does. I'm learning that I need to think it out before I say something(it's a Madsen thing, we can't help it!) I've learned what true love really is! Thank You, Michael! And Happy Father's Day!

Where did you get this picture? I recognize the picture in the background, but not the house. Where was this?

Hey Amanda! Just checking out your blog. Love it! The wedding looks awesome. I'm so impressed. I also had to do the Jane Austen test. Love her!!! I am also Elizabeth Bennett, which is very cool since she is my fav character anyway!
